Leeds get Summerville bonus as Brighton’s transfer development drops off
Leeds United gave Crysencio Summerville a lift, as Brighton’s transfer development reveals.
The Seagulls made an approach for the 22-year-old Dutch winger last month [Fabrizio Romano, 17 June], and Leeds are not anticipated to stand in his way if they get an offer of up to £40 million.
However, it now appears that they may have an even better chance of keeping him at Elland Road after Brighton turned their focus away from the former Feyenoord player.
Will Crysencio Summerville stay at Leeds United?
Fabian Hurzeler, the new manager at the AMEX Stadium, has signed Yankuba Minteh for £33 million from Newcastle United [Sky Sports, 30 June].
With Minteh filling the role in the squad that appeared to be intended for Summerville, as well as spending the money that may have been set aside for him, they may now be out of the running for his signature.
Liverpool and Chelsea have previously been linked with a move for the 21-goal forward, and it’s probable that they will have a free run to complete a deal with Leeds.
However, with Archie Gray sold to Tottenham for £40 million [Ben Jacobs, 1 July], and Joe Rodon returning to Elland Road, there is no pressure to sell further assets.
Leeds’ price could grow because of his importance to the squad, but with two years left on his deal, they may not have a better opportunity to cash in for large money.
In any case, Brighton appear to have dropped out of contention, and if Daniel Farke wants Summerville in his squad next season, this is a significant help.
