Portman Road has given me a chance to reflect in the dark- Ipswich versatile attacker in few words unveils…

Omari Hutchinson has made history by becoming the most expensive signing ever for Ipswich Town.

Last night, as he sat at Portman Road under the focus of camera lights with darkness surrounding him, Omari had a moment to reflect on his journey.

“A year ago, I joined the club on loan,” he told Town TV. “Now, I’m here permanently, and I’m thrilled to be back and ready to start.”

The versatile attacker’s move from Chelsea shattered Ipswich Town’s transfer record, costing £18 million plus add-ons. The transfer wasn’t straightforward. Ipswich had to negotiate not only the fee but also convince Hutchinson to rejoin the club and sign a five-year contract. His positive loan experience in Suffolk last season made the decision easier.

“When you’re a player, you want that confidence,” Hutchinson explained. “The fans and the manager gave me that extra boost. They trusted and believed in me, so coming here permanently was an easy decision.”

Reflecting on his favorite matches from last season, Hutchinson recalled, “Probably my first game at the stadium and my last game where I scored and we got promoted. That was the best feeling.”

His family’s support was crucial in his decision to return. They often came to watch Ipswich play last season and felt a positive energy from the club and its friendly people.

“The hard work starts now,” Hutchinson acknowledged. Last season, he arrived as a raw yet talented youngster with little senior experience. Over the season, he developed significantly, creating optimism about his continued growth.

“From the start, the manager told me what I needed to work on. He pushed me hard during training to get the best out of me. That’s what I need as a player; I’m always looking to improve.”

Next season will be different, with a significant step up as Ipswich aims to stay in the Premier League. Hutchinson is determined to help the team succeed.

“I have big ambitions for the club. I want to stay in the Premier League, play against the biggest teams, and achieve amazing things with Ipswich,” he stated. “I want to score goals, assist, and get fans excited. The Premier League will be challenging, but we’re ready to fight and battle.”

His message to the fans? “Be ready,” he said. “I’m looking forward to this season and I hope they are too.”
