Portsmouth Veteran Offers Encouraging Update on His Fratton Park Future
Portsmouth FC defender Connor Ogilvie has provided supporters with a positive update regarding his long-term future at Fratton Park, revealing that discussions have already taken place about extending his stay with the club.
The 30-year-old defender, whose current contract is due to expire this summer, has expressed a strong desire to remain with Pompey beyond the end of the season. Ogilvie, who has become one of the club’s most dependable performers, admitted that he would happily continue his journey on the south coast and hopes negotiations can result in a new deal.
During his four-and-a-half-year spell with Portsmouth, the experienced defender has established himself as a key figure within the squad. Since arriving from Gillingham FC in 2021 under then-manager Danny Cowley, Ogilvie has gone on to make 188 appearances in all competitions for the club. His consistency and professionalism have made him a fan favourite among the Fratton Park faithful.
Currently, Ogilvie is the longest-serving member of head coach John Mousinho’s squad. However, he is also among several players whose contracts are set to expire at the end of the campaign. Others in a similar situation include club captain Marlon Pack, Andre Dozzell, Zak Swanson, Toby Steward, goalkeeper Jordan Archer and young prospect Reuben Swann.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding several squad members, Mousinho has already indicated his desire to retain a number of those players, with Ogilvie believed to be among the priority names the club would like to keep.
Reinventing Himself in Defence
In recent weeks, Ogilvie has demonstrated impressive versatility by successfully transitioning into a central defensive role. Due to injuries suffered by Conor Shaughnessy and Hayden Matthews, the defender has partnered Regan Poole in the heart of Portsmouth’s backline.
His performances in this new position have drawn praise from supporters and coaching staff alike, with many fans urging the club to reward the League One title winner with a contract extension.
Speaking about his future, Ogilvie admitted he would be delighted to remain part of the club’s plans moving forward.
He explained that initial conversations have already taken place, adding that both he and his family are settled in the area and would be happy to continue their lives in Portsmouth.
The defender emphasised that he loves playing for the club and hopes a deal can be reached that allows him to remain at Fratton Park next season and beyond.
Mousinho Praises Ogilvie’s Development
Head coach John Mousinho has also spoken highly of Ogilvie’s development, suggesting the defender is currently playing the best football of his career.
Mousinho believes Ogilvie has evolved significantly during his time at Portsmouth, initially proving himself as a reliable left-back before adapting impressively into a central defensive role at Championship level.
The Pompey boss highlighted the player’s professionalism and attitude, describing him as a low-maintenance player who consistently delivers strong performances on the pitch. According to Mousinho, Ogilvie’s commitment and work ethic make him an ideal player to work with, and the club would be pleased to see him remain part of the squad moving forward.
While negotiations are still ongoing, the early signs appear encouraging. With both the player and manager seemingly aligned in their desire to continue the partnership, Portsmouth supporters will be hopeful that a new contract can be agreed before the current one expires.
