Stefon Diggs Fuels Speculation Over Next NFL Destination as Buffalo Bills Reunion Appears Unlikely

Rumors surrounding a possible return of veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Buffalo Bills have been circulating for weeks, but recent comments from the star receiver suggest that a reunion may no longer be the most likely outcome. Instead, Diggs has openly expressed interest in the possibility of joining his hometown Washington Commanders, adding a new twist to his free agency story as training camp draws closer.

Earlier in the offseason, fans and several Bills players fueled speculation that Diggs could make a return to Buffalo after his departure. However, despite the growing rumors, no agreement has materialized, and with training camp approaching, Diggs appears to be keeping his options open while acknowledging that playing for Washington has long been an appealing idea.

Speaking during an interview with FOX 5, Diggs admitted that representing his hometown franchise would carry significant emotional meaning. The veteran receiver explained that the opportunity to play in front of family, friends, and the community that supported him throughout his youth would be something special.

According to Diggs, the thought of returning home has always been in the back of his mind. He recalled having similar feelings when he decided to attend the University of Maryland, choosing to stay close to home early in his football career. He noted that playing professionally for Washington would be another full-circle moment and said he remains hopeful that circumstances could eventually align.

Diggs emphasized that nothing has been finalized, but he also made it clear that he has not ruled out signing with the Commanders. While he acknowledged that discussions are still ongoing behind the scenes, he described himself as being open to different opportunities and willing to see how the situation develops over the coming weeks.

Washington’s search for another proven pass catcher has been well documented throughout the offseason. The franchise had previously been linked with a potential move for Brandon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers, but with San Francisco yet to move the talented receiver, his availability remains uncertain. If that pursuit ultimately falls through, Diggs could emerge as an attractive alternative.

Adding a player with Diggs’ experience would give rising quarterback Jayden Daniels another dependable offensive weapon. Throughout his career, Diggs has established himself as one of the league’s most productive receivers, and his leadership and route-running ability could provide an immediate boost to Washington’s passing attack, much like the chemistry he previously developed with quarterback Josh Allen during his highly successful tenure in Buffalo.

Bills Coaching Staff Appears Comfortable Moving Forward Without Diggs

Although speculation surrounding Diggs’ return has continued throughout the offseason, the Bills’ coaching staff does not appear to be actively pursuing such a move.

Offensive coordinator Joe Brady spoke positively about Diggs as both a player and competitor but stressed that he has complete confidence in Buffalo’s current group of wide receivers. Brady explained that while the organization always evaluates opportunities to improve the roster, he believes the existing receiving corps has shown tremendous progress throughout offseason workouts.

He specifically praised the development of several young players while highlighting the additions the Bills have already made. According to Brady, the coaching staff is encouraged by the continued growth of returning receivers and believes the unit is capable of producing at a high level entering the new season.

Buffalo’s receiving room now features experienced and emerging talent, including D.J. Moore, Skyler Bell, Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, and Joshua Palmer. With that collection of receivers already in place, the coaching staff appears satisfied with its current options and does not seem eager to revisit a partnership with Diggs.

Even so, Diggs remains one of the NFL’s more productive veteran receivers. Last season, while playing for the New England Patriots, he finished with 85 receptions, 1,013 receiving yards, and four touchdown catches. Those numbers demonstrated that he is still capable of producing at a high level and could become an impact addition for any team seeking a proven offensive playmaker.

Buffalo Bills Set Training Camp Schedule

As preparations for the new NFL season continue, the Bills are scheduled to open training camp in late July, with several sessions available for fans to attend.

The team’s open practice schedule includes:

  • Wednesday, July 29 – 8:30 a.m.
  • Thursday, July 30 – 8:30 a.m.
  • Saturday, August 1 – 8:30 a.m.
  • Monday, August 3 – 8:30 a.m.
  • Tuesday, August 4 – 8:30 a.m.
  • Thursday, August 6 – 8:30 a.m.
  • Friday, August 7 – 8:30 a.m.

Buffalo will then transition into its preseason schedule, beginning with a matchup against the Carolina Panthers on August 15. The Bills will also face the Pittsburgh Steelers on August 22 before wrapping up preseason play against the Cleveland Browns on August 27.

With training camp only weeks away, Diggs’ future remains one of the more intriguing storylines of the offseason. Whether he ultimately returns to familiar surroundings in Buffalo or fulfills his desire to play for his hometown Commanders, his next decision is expected to draw significant attention across the league.
