Gabe Davis faced a difficult college career at Oklahoma State, with injuries repeatedly disrupting his development and limiting his time on the mound.
One of the setbacks came after he broke his collarbone in a fishing accident, while later shoulder problems also kept him sidelined for long stretches. Because of those issues, Davis never truly had the opportunity to show his full potential in college baseball, which affected his draft stock.
Even so, the Chicago White Sox saw enough talent to take a chance on him in the fifth round of the 2025 MLB Draft.
That gamble is already beginning to look promising.
Davis has started to put everything together in professional baseball and is now ranked as the White Sox’s No. 25 prospect. MLB.com recently highlighted him as the organization’s hottest pitching prospect thanks to his impressive start at High-A level.
The right-hander has posted a 1.80 ERA across 20 innings while holding opponents to a .200 batting average. He has also recorded 25 strikeouts compared to just six walks, showing the kind of control and dominance the White Sox hoped for when they drafted him.
Chicago was especially drawn to Davis because of his electric arsenal. He throws a mid-90s fastball that can touch 100 mph, alongside a sharp upper-80s slider that has proven difficult for hitters to handle.
The White Sox are expected to continue developing him as a starter, and there is belief he could add even more velocity as he physically matures. However, even if he eventually moves to the bullpen, Davis has the type of fastball-slider combination that could make him a dangerous high-leverage reliever in the future.
