Callum Perry Commits His Future to Coventry City with New Long-Term Deal
Coventry City are delighted to confirm that promising young defender Callum Perry has signed a new long-term contract, extending his stay with the Sky Blues and reaffirming the club’s confidence in his continued development.
The 20-year-old enjoyed an outstanding loan spell at Rochdale during the second half of the previous season, where he gained valuable first-team experience in senior football. Perry made 25 appearances for The Dale and played a key role in their successful promotion campaign. One of the standout moments of his loan came at Wembley Stadium, where he confidently converted his penalty in the National League play-off final shootout, helping Rochdale secure a return to the English Football League.
A product of Coventry City’s academy, Perry has steadily progressed through the club’s youth ranks, representing both the Under-18s and Under-21s. His leadership qualities were recognised when he captained the Under-21 side in the Premier League Cup, while his impressive performances have also earned him places on the substitutes’ bench for the senior team.
Throughout the past season, Perry continued to demonstrate significant growth both on and off the pitch. His time at Rochdale provided him with invaluable exposure to the demands of men’s football, further enhancing his development and preparing him for the next stage of his career at Coventry City.
After signing his new contract, Perry expressed his excitement about continuing his journey with the club.
“I’m absolutely buzzing to have signed a new contract,” he said. “I’ve been at Coventry City for a long time, and it’s a club that means a lot to me. I genuinely love the people around the club, from the staff to my teammates, so I’m really happy that I’ll be staying here for the foreseeable future.”
Reflecting on his successful loan spell, Perry highlighted the importance of the experience in his footballing development.
“Last season was massive for me. Playing at Wembley was an unforgettable experience, and the game against York on the final day of the season was another huge occasion. More importantly, spending time in men’s football helped me learn so much about the game. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone at Rochdale for giving me that opportunity because it’s helped prepare me for what I hope will be a really important season ahead.”
Looking forward, the young defender is determined to continue his progress and make an impact at Coventry City.
“My focus now is on coming back as fit as possible, working hard every day, and making sure I’m ready to play football again whenever the opportunity comes.”
Perry’s new long-term contract reflects Coventry City’s belief in his potential and underlines the club’s commitment to developing talented academy graduates into first-team players. Following an impressive season of growth and valuable senior experience, the defender will now be aiming to build on his progress and establish himself as an important part of Coventry City’s future.
