Seahawks Linked to Potential Blockbuster Move Involving Maxx Crosby
The Seattle Seahawks are entering the 2026 NFL season with enormous expectations after capturing the Super Bowl title, placing the rest of the league on notice. As defending champions, Seattle now has a target on its back, and several NFC rivals are already making aggressive moves in an attempt to close the gap. One of the most notable responses has come from the Los Angeles Rams, who are determined to strengthen their roster after being outplayed by the Seahawks.
According to reports released on June 1 by NFL insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Rams are in the process of finalizing a major trade with the Cleveland Browns for star defensive end Myles Garrett. Sources indicated that Los Angeles is prepared to send a significant package in return, including two-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Jared Verse, a first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, and additional draft assets.
The blockbuster acquisition immediately sparked conversations about whether Seattle could respond with a major move of its own before the NFL trade deadline later this year. During the June 1 edition of the “Bump & Stacy” show, Seattle Sports analyst Michael Bumpus suggested that the Seahawks may need to counter the Rams’ aggressive strategy by pursuing another elite pass rusher.
Bumpus pointed to Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby as a possible target. He explained that if Seattle had genuine interest in acquiring Myles Garrett before the Rams landed him, then the team should naturally begin exploring other high-level alternatives on the market.
While discussing potential options, Bumpus also mentioned veteran pass rusher Joey Bosa, who remains available. However, he indicated that Crosby would likely be a better fit for Seattle’s defensive system and overall team identity. According to Bumpus, Crosby’s style of play and mentality seem like a smoother match for the Seahawks and their culture in the Pacific Northwest.
Although Bumpus acknowledged that no move is imminent, he emphasized that Seattle should at least evaluate the possibility and “kick the tires” on a potential trade. In his view, the Seahawks cannot simply ignore the Rams’ acquisition of Garrett and may eventually need to answer with a move of their own.
Despite those suggestions, fellow Seattle Sports analyst Curtis Rogers offered a different perspective during the same discussion. Rogers questioned whether the Rams’ addition of Garrett automatically makes them the top defensive unit in the NFL. He argued that Seattle already proved last season that an elite defense does not necessarily require multiple superstar names.
Rogers reminded listeners that the Seahawks finished with the league’s best defense despite lacking the flashy star power possessed by some other teams. While the Rams may now have more recognizable defensive stars, Rogers believes Seattle’s unit remains stronger overall until proven otherwise.
He further explained that many critics previously pushed the Seahawks to pursue marquee pass rushers such as Trey Hendrickson or Micah Parsons when those names surfaced in trade rumors. However, Seattle chose to remain patient and resisted sacrificing major draft capital for a single defensive star.
At the time, some analysts criticized the organization for failing to make a splashy move, arguing that opportunities to acquire elite edge rushers rarely become available. Still, the Seahawks trusted the depth and chemistry of their existing defensive line rather than chasing headline-making acquisitions.
That decision ultimately paid off. What initially appeared to be a potentially underwhelming defensive front developed into one of the most dominant units in football during the 2025 season. Seattle’s defense became the foundation of its championship run and played a major role in leading the team all the way to a Super Bowl victory.
Rogers emphasized that Seattle achieved all of this without adding a superstar like Myles Garrett, reinforcing the idea that the Seahawks may not need another major name to maintain their dominance. Under head coach Mike Macdonald, the organization appears committed to building a collective, disciplined defensive system rather than relying heavily on individual star power.
Even so, with division rivals continuing to make aggressive roster moves, speculation surrounding a possible pursuit of Maxx Crosby or another elite pass rusher is likely to remain a major storyline as the season approaches.
