Birmingham City Set £25m Price Tag as Premier League Clubs Circle Jay Stansfield

Birmingham City are reportedly prepared to demand £25 million for striker Jay Stansfield as growing interest from several Premier League clubs threatens to test their resolve during the summer transfer window.

According to reports, newly promoted Ipswich Town and Hull City are among the clubs monitoring the 23-year-old forward after his impressive performances in the Championship last season. Both sides are believed to view Stansfield as a player capable of strengthening their attacking options as they prepare for life in the Premier League.

The striker enjoyed a productive campaign for Birmingham, contributing 10 league goals and six assists in 44 Championship appearances. His consistency, work rate, and ability to operate across multiple attacking positions have reportedly made him an attractive target for clubs looking to add proven Championship quality with Premier League potential.

Ipswich and Hull Eye Premier League-Proven Talent

Football Insider reports that both Ipswich Town and Hull City are weighing up potential moves for Stansfield, believing he fits the profile of player they need ahead of the new season. The forward is said to “tick a lot of boxes” for both clubs thanks to his age, versatility, and strong performances throughout the 2025/26 campaign.

A move would also offer Stansfield the opportunity to return to England’s top flight after spending the past two seasons developing in the Championship. Although his Premier League experience remains limited, the former Fulham striker has already shown flashes of his potential at the highest level.

Birmingham Determined to Keep Their Star Man

Despite the growing interest, Birmingham City are understood to have little desire to part ways with one of their most valuable assets. The Blues are reportedly only willing to consider negotiations if an offer in the region of £25 million is received.

That valuation reflects both the club’s faith in the striker and the significant investment they made to bring him to St Andrew’s. Birmingham broke their transfer record in August 2024 by paying approximately £15 million to sign Stansfield permanently from Fulham after an impressive loan spell.

The Championship club remain ambitious and are keen to build a squad capable of pushing for Premier League promotion rather than weakening it by selling key players.

A Career Built Through Patience and Development

Stansfield’s journey has been one of steady progression. He made his Premier League debut for Fulham against Wolves in August 2022 before earning his only top-flight start against Brentford the following week. However, breaking into Fulham’s first team proved difficult, with the striker making just 10 senior appearances for the London club.

Seeking regular football, Fulham sent him on loan to his boyhood club, Exeter City, in September 2022. The move proved to be a turning point, as he produced an impressive return of nine goals and eight assists while continuing his development in League One.

His performances caught Birmingham City’s attention, leading to an initial loan move before the club committed to a permanent transfer in a record-breaking deal.

Key Figure Under Chris Davies

Since arriving permanently, Stansfield has become one of the first names on Chris Davies’ team sheet. His ability to play as a central striker, second forward, or out wide has made him an invaluable member of Birmingham’s attack.

He featured in all but two Championship matches last season, underlining both his durability and importance to the squad.

The forward made an immediate impact by scoring in Birmingham’s opening two league fixtures against Ipswich Town and Blackburn Rovers. He also produced memorable brace performances against both Hull City and Norwich City, further highlighting his knack for delivering in crucial matches.

Competition for His Signature Intensifies

Ipswich Town and Hull City are unlikely to have a clear run at signing Stansfield. Reports indicate that fellow Premier League clubs Sunderland and Everton are also keeping close tabs on the Birmingham striker ahead of the transfer window.

With multiple clubs interested, Birmingham are in a strong negotiating position. Stansfield remains under a long-term contract after signing a seven-year deal when he joined permanently in 2024, meaning he still has five years remaining on his current agreement.

That contractual security gives Birmingham little pressure to sell, allowing the club to demand a premium fee if any interested side decides to make a formal approach. Having finished 10th in the Championship last season, the Blues remain focused on their own ambitions of earning promotion to the Premier League and will be reluctant to lose one of their standout performers unless their valuation is fully met.
