Wrexham Ready to Lure £1.5m Swansea Star With Bigger Salary Offer Amid Contract Dispute.

Wrexham are reportedly preparing an ambitious move to sign Swansea City midfielder Ethan Galbraith in what could become one of the most talked-about transfer stories involving Welsh clubs this summer.

The upcoming Championship season is expected to spark an intense battle for footballing dominance in Wales, with Wrexham, Swansea City, and Cardiff City all competing in the same division after Cardiff secured promotion back to the Championship in April. Over the last campaign, much of the attention surrounding Welsh football centered on the impressive performances of Wrexham and Swansea, both of whom fought to establish themselves as the highest-ranked Welsh side in the English Football League.

Wrexham, under the management of experienced boss Phil Parkinson, came remarkably close to securing a play-off place during their first season back in the second tier since 1982. Their rapid rise through the football pyramid has continued to attract widespread attention, particularly due to the financial backing and global spotlight brought by Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Following their promotion from League One, Wrexham invested heavily in strengthening the squad, breaking club transfer records in the process. Expectations remain high heading into the 2026/27 season, especially with the Championship play-off structure expanding to include more teams. Even a seventh-place finish next season could now offer a route into the Premier League through an additional eliminator round before the traditional semi-finals.

With ambitions clearly growing at the STōK Cae Ras, Wrexham have already begun identifying transfer targets to improve their squad. One of the standout names reportedly under consideration is Swansea City midfielder Ethan Galbraith.

According to reports from Wales Online, Wrexham are interested in signing the versatile Northern Ireland international amid uncertainty surrounding his contract situation at Swansea. While Swansea endured an inconsistent campaign under Alan Sheehan and current manager Vítor Matos, Galbraith emerged as one of the club’s more reliable performers throughout the season.

The 25-year-old joined Swansea from Leyton Orient last summer in a deal believed to be worth around £1.5 million after the club beat Charlton Athletic to his signature. Since arriving in South Wales, he has made 39 Championship appearances, scoring three goals and registering two assists. He also found the net during Swansea’s EFL Cup victory over Crawley Town.

However, despite signing a three-year contract only last July, reports suggest Galbraith and his representatives have rejected a proposed new deal from Swansea. The disagreement is believed to center around wages, with the midfielder reportedly unhappy that the offered terms do not place him among the club’s highest earners despite his importance to the team. It has also been claimed that Swansea have yet to submit an improved offer as pre-season preparations approach.

Wrexham’s interest is said to come alongside attention from several unnamed Premier League clubs, highlighting Galbraith’s growing reputation within English football.

Former Aston Villa midfielder and Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie previously described Galbraith as one of the Championship’s most underrated players, and many observers have echoed that opinion throughout the season. Given his performances and increasing profile, it is understandable why the midfielder may now be seeking a more lucrative contract at this stage of his career.

Financially, Wrexham may be in a stronger position to meet his demands. Estimated figures from Capology suggest Wrexham had the 12th-highest wage bill in the Championship during the 2025/26 campaign, spending around £343,500 per week on player salaries. Swansea’s estimated weekly wage bill was reportedly lower, at approximately £281,500.

Despite his strong performances, Galbraith is believed to currently earn around £10,000 per week at Swansea. That figure is significantly below the estimated salaries of some of the club’s top earners, including Cameron Burgess and Adam Idah, who reportedly take home around £25,000 per week after joining Swansea last summer.

As a result, the possibility of Wrexham offering improved financial terms, combined with the club’s ambitious project and upward momentum, could make a move to North Wales an increasingly attractive option for the Northern Ireland international.
